Aspiring Principals' Seminar - New Plymouth

NZEI Te Riu Roa is offering free full day (i.e. 10a.m. – 3.30p.m.) Aspiring Principal seminars throughout the country during the July term break. The seminars are specifically targeted at teacher members who currently hold a middle management roles in their school and who have an interest in moving on to principalship as their next career step.
This seminar will be co-facilitated by a NZEI Te Riu Roa Principal Support Officer and an experienced current principal.
Being a principal is a highly rewarding career which is critical to school success. However, it is also important that teachers moving into principalship do so with their “eyes wide open”. Often, newly appointed principals report that their first days/weeks in the job were daunting and full of surprises, no matter how well prepared for the role they believed themselves to have been. The seminars are designed to provide you with strategies to cope with the challenges of the role.
The intention with these seminars is to provide interested teachers with a clear understanding of the role of a principal in schools today through analysing what a “Day in the Life of a Principal” looks like in reality. The seminars will cover a range of topics and skills such as:
• Strategic Planning / Working with the Board of Trustees
• Educational leadership
• Managing effective community relationships
• Staff management
• Finance, property, administration and compliance
• Planning, monitoring, reporting
• How to establish effective work / life boundaries
• Where to go for support and advice
Lunch will be provided for attendees.
Due to venue and catering arrangements, places will be strictly limited so get in first by registering now.
