Charter Schools Forum - Pakuranga

The government is currently in the midst of introducing one of the most significant changes to New Zealand's school system in decades - the conversion of public schools into privately operated charter schools. It's important that school leaders, educators and communities consider the implications of this for learners and educators in their own schools and the schooling system as a whole.

In England charter schools now make up 40% of all primary schools so there is a lot we can learn from their experience. James Kerr is a teacher from London and a member of the executive committee of the UK National Education Union. He has seen first hand the impact of chartertisation and is visiting Aotearoa to share his insights and answer the questions of New Zealand educators.
