Hutt Valley ECE PD - Kathryn Berkett: Complex Behaviours

Across Aotearoa, there are a growing number of children who display increasingly complex behaviours. With such complex needs, it is incredibly difficult to know where to begin…

This two-hour workshop will begin by unpacking the neuroscience of trauma. We will talk about what trauma physically does to the brain; how it can affect the operation of our stress response and other systems in our body.

Once we truly understand how behaviour develops, we can become more adept at targeting the source of the behaviour.

The most exciting aspect is that these strategies are simple. We make a difference because of our interactions, because of our relationships, because we care.

Kathryn has her Masters in Educational Psychology, and has certified as a Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics practitioner and has extensive experience in this area. She has worked and trained, nationally and internationally, on the subject of neuroscience for over fifteen years.

The Hutt Valley Branch of NZEI Te Riu Roa are proud to be organising this free event for ECE educators.
We will provide a light dinner from 5:30pm before Kathryn begins her session at 6pm.
