Mātauranga Māui: Climate Action for Educators - 2 Night Training

On the evenings of Wednesday 22 and 29 June, 7-9pm, we’re launching our Mātauranga Māui Climate Action for Educators foundation climate training. Attendees must go to both events.
22 June is the global day of action to Climate and Employment Proof our Workplaces. This is our contribution to that day of action - and also an important tūāpapa/foundation stone for building our climate network.
Join us on both evenings along with others members from your region for this two-part training.
Purpose: to build a cohort of educators who have a solid understanding of climate change and the role of education unionists in a Just Transition. This training has been developed specifically for NZEI Te Riu Roa and considers climate change through a Mātauranga Māori lens.
We also welcome fellow unionists from our sister unions, the PPTA and the TEU.
Course Overview: Night 1
- Understanding climate change through a Te Ao Māori lens (Mōkū Te Ao)
- Gain an overview of the impacts of climate change - and global and national level responses
- Consider how Mātauranga Māori forms the basis for climate action
- Take a stocktake of what is happening in your own workplaces/communities
Night 2
- Understand the concept of a Just Transition
- Think about what you can do to Climate and Employment Proof Your Workplace
- Support you to take the next steps
Zoom link will be sent two days before the event.
