Waikato - Waihi: Teacher & Principal Strike Action

This event is for NZEI Te Riu Roa teachers and principals and supporters based in Waikato - Waihi to call on the government to take action to get behind educators so they can better support the tamariki they teach.

NZEI Te Riu Roa Rally and March 9:30-1:00pm:

9.30 - Gather at Secret garden, Waihi Beach.
Local branches (NZEI/PPTA) have a coffee

10.00 - Start march; March up one side of the town and down the other side

10.45 - Leave for Waihi

11.00 - Gather at Waihi

11.30 - Start protest on the big roundabout centre of town (Subway/Rob Roy/ Chemist/ Dillamores). Protesters on all four corners of the roundabout

12.30 - Speaker to motivate the crowd and share the message

1.00 - Rally winds up as people are ready

● The action will proceed irrespective of the weather conditions on the day so come dressed appropriately
● Let shops in the areas know we are gathering particularly around the roundabout (AM)
● Security people (fluro vests) on the corners and edge of strike to assist with crowd management (each school to decide on 2 people to help with this)
● Car parking - please be considerate of other people in town
● Be mindful of other users of the footpath and allow walking access
● Clothing -Blue teacher, Black Principals
● Make and bring along placards, signs, school flags and banners
● Bring percussion instruments, whistles etc. to make a big noise
● We encourage you to invite your friends and family to join in the Action
● Demonstrate professional behaviour on the March – no littering, smoking of vaping
● Stay safe by marching on the footpath and together. Please forward any questions to your School union Worksite Representative
